Time flies when you are learning and having fun - it is hard to believe how quickly the months have flown by. We are excited to be heading into 2025, with just six months remaining in the academic year. It has been an incredible start, filled with meaningful events and activities. Our students, staff, and families have made this school year one filled with positive energy, growth, and celebration.
We have already marked some important milestones, such as Breast Cancer and Diabetes Awareness Month, Mental Health and Respect Week, and the vibrant events of Hispanic Heritage Month. These celebrations highlight the values that define our school community: inclusion, respect, and pride in our diversity.
In addition to these wonderful events, our extracurricular programs continue to thrive. Students are actively participating in after-school activities and taking advantage of the enrichment opportunities offered during our Flex School period. We are also proud to have brought back the 21st Century Program, which continues to provide students with unique opportunities to grow academically and personally beyond the regular school day.
As I reflect on my 23 years in education, I am reminded of the dedication required to foster academic growth and achievement. My journey has taught me the importance of collaboration and I am committed to continuing this tradition at our school. My goal is to build an environment where students, staff, and the broader community work together to ensure success for all.
As the Principal, it is my responsibility to oversee the delivery of our curriculum, the analysis of data, the implementation of assessments, and the advancement of social-emotional learning. These elements are essential as we meet the demands of the 21st century. Success is not achieved in isolation; I firmly believe that our students' success depends on a strong partnership between parents, teachers, staff, central office, and the community. Joining our PATT (Parents and Teachers Together) group is a great way to contribute to this partnership and help prepare our scholars for future success. By working together, we can help ensure that our students receive the support they need to reach their fullest potential.
This year, we are building on the successes of the previous year. I am thrilled to share that last year; Hubbard Middle School successfully exited Comprehensive Status, thanks to rising test scores and a significant reduction in chronic absenteeism. We are determined to continue this upward trajectory, maintaining this progress and working tirelessly to keep our school on the path of improvement. Our students and staff are putting in tremendous effort to ensure our scholars are proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Additionally, our attendance rate has been outstanding, with chronic absenteeism at just 11% so far this year, and we look forward to maintaining this momentum.
As we continue our journey through the school year, here are a few important reminders:
Uniforms: All grades may wear khaki or black pants, shorts, or skirts, and sneakers are highly recommended.
Sixth Grade: Black polo shirts
Seventh Grade: Gray polo shirts
Eighth Grade: Red polo shirts
Dismissal Procedures: Our security officers begin their duties after 2:30 p.m. to prepare for dismissal. If you plan to pick up your child, please call the school ahead of time to ensure a smooth and timely process.
For more information on how we are guiding the academic and personal development of our students, I encourage you to review the Plainfield Public Schools District Strategic Plan. This plan helps drive our mission to support the whole child and strengthen our partnerships with families. Click Here for the District Strategic Plan.
I am incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and dedication from all of our families. Together, we are making our school a place where students are inspired to learn, grow, and succeed. Here is to a fantastic remainder of the school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Olivia Rodriguez-Calderon, Principal
